stress symptoms

Physiologically the stress response is known as the General Adaptation Syndrome, the non-specific response of the body to any agent, good or bad.  As such the body can react in many different ways to stress.  However, here are some commonly accepted symptoms of stress:

Psychological

  • Constant irritability with people
  • Feeling unable to cope
  • Lack of interest in life/work
  • A feeling of being a failure
  • Difficulty in making decisions
  • Loss of interest in other people
  • Inability to show true feelings
  • Loss of sense of humour
  • Dread of the future
  • Feeling of having failed as a person or parent
  • Difficulty in concentrating


Physical Symptoms

  • Lack of appetite
  • Frequent indigestion or heartburn
  • Insomnia
  • Constant tiredness
  • Tendency to sweat for no good reason
  • Nervous twitches
  • Headaches
  • Nausea
  • Breathlessness without exertion
  • Frequent crying or desire to cry
  • Impotency or frigidity
  • High blood pressure
