Somerset County Council have proved that dealing with staff absence using a robust stress risk assessment procedure and thoughtful and incisive interventions programme can save money. What’s more, it did not take a five year cycle of return on investment to reap the rewards. Payback was almost instant.
The cost of the two year programme amounting to around half a million pounds showed a return of nearly one and a half million pounds in year three, a saving that has now been maintained for two years in a row.
